The service
Never a day without teeth.
When the remaining teeth in an arch cannot be saved, an immediate denture spares you the weeks of gap a conventional denture would leave. The work starts before anything is removed: impressions of your existing teeth and gums let us build an accurate duplicate, ready to go in the moment the extractions are done.
One honest caveat: because the denture is made before the teeth come out, its fit cannot be checked in your mouth in advance, and occasionally small aesthetic compromises are needed where space or structure demands it. We will tell you if your case is one of them.
After extraction, gums and bone recede as they heal. Temporary linings and tissue conditioners keep the fit snug through that period, and a permanent reline finishes the job once healing is complete.

Impressions
Before any tooth is removed, we take impressions so the denture can duplicate your natural teeth.
Extraction and fitting
The teeth are removed and the immediate denture goes in at the same appointment.
Healing check-ups
As gums and bone reshape, temporary liners and tissue conditioners are adjusted or replaced to keep the fit.
Permanent reline
Once healing is complete, a permanent reline gives the denture its final, exact fit.

Afterwards
The healing months.
Follow the postoperative instructions closely: they do most of the work. Stick to soft foods at first and avoid anything hard, sticky or chew-heavy, reintroducing normal meals as healing allows. Keep every check-up; the adjustments made there are what keep the denture comfortable while your gums change shape underneath it.
Call the office if:
- The denture rocks or rubs a sore spot
- Pain or bleeding gets worse instead of better
- The denture cracks or a tooth loosens

How is this different from a conventional denture?
Timing. A conventional denture is placed weeks after extraction, once the tissues have healed; an immediate denture goes in the same day. The trade-off is more adjustments, because the gums and bone change shape as they heal.
Can I eat normally straight away?
Start with soft foods and take it slowly. As your mouth heals and you get used to the denture, you can work back to a normal diet.
How long will an immediate denture last?
It is built to bridge the healing period, and many patients move to a conventional denture within a few months to a year. Cared for well, it can serve for several years, with regular check-ups to keep the fit true.
