The service
What a denture exam is for.
A denture is an investment, and its fit has a direct effect on the health of the tissue it rests on. An ill-fitting denture causes bite problems, speech trouble and irritation, and left unchecked it changes the very bone and gum it sits on. New conditions and new medications can quietly change the fit too, which is why the exam starts with your health history.
The annual exam is also a health check for the mouth itself. Dr. Danoukh screens for oral abnormalities, including cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions, where early detection makes treatment far more effective, and checks the denture for cracks, chips and loose teeth before small faults become broken plates.

We update your medical and dental history; a surprising range of conditions can change how a denture fits.
Oral exam
A full examination of the oral cavity, including screening for cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions.
Tissue and bone assessment
We check the ridge and tissues under the denture for the changes an imperfect fit causes.
Stability and bite check
The denture itself is assessed for fit, stability, cracks, chips and loose teeth.
Clean and polish
A professional clean and polish lifts staining and buildup home brushing leaves behind.
Hygiene review
We go over your care routine and adjust anything working against you.
Afterwards
Between exams.
Keep the daily care routine going and resist the urge to adjust or repair the denture yourself; home fixes reliably cause more harm than good. If something changes before your next exam is due, come in sooner.
Call the office if:
- The denture loosens, clicks or shifts when you chew
- Speech changes or words start to slur
- Sores or irritation appear under the denture
- A crack, chip or loose denture tooth turns up

How often should my dentures be examined?
At least once a year. Regular exams confirm the fit and catch wear before it causes trouble.
What does the exam involve?
Fit and stability checks, inspection for damage and wear, an assessment of your gums and any remaining teeth, an oral cancer screening, and a professional clean and polish.
Can I adjust my dentures at home?
No. DIY adjustments and repairs tend to ruin the fit or the denture itself. Any relining, adjustment or repair should be done professionally.
